When Love is Natural

In my line of business I meet a lot of couples, and I generally am a good judge of a match made in Heaven…or not lol.  I met Brittany for coffee to discuss her wedding  and was immediately drawn to her personality.  I found myself getting “big sister” for her and wanted to make sure Boyd was everything he needed to be to be the best for her.  We met up for their engagement session and it took maybe a half second for me to drop any of my doubts.  When love is natural that “you’ll just know” feeling isn’t just evident to the couple but everyone in their space.

We moved from one location to the next and it was effortless to set them up, not because they had attended modeling school and knew how to pose.  More because they just naturally fell together perfectly each time.

They filled their surrounding and brought more radiance.

They switched it up about half way through the session to a more casual vibe, and still commanded the place.

Then this bridge happened and as soon as clicked the shutter I knew it was magic!

I’m pretty sure they didn’t take a bad picture and if the light hadn’t started to fail I might have kept finding places to take more shots so we could just hang out.  For Boyd’s sake though we wrapped the session up.  I’m excited for their wedding around the corner- no doubt it’s going to be gorgeous!

Rockstar Momma Alert!

Like a majority of maternity waits this one followed suit: overdue.  It felt like an infinity as I was anticipating the call that my dear friend Brianne was in labor (except for the day I was out of town shooting a wedding- I was praying she would wait!).  The night of August 29th I got a hopeful text that things were starting and would prayerfully continue to progress.  It worked out to be perfect timing as my mind was already geared to stay up all night to organize and do a seasonal purge.  Around midnight I got the green light to head over.  I drove to Jeff & Brianne’s home, a ball of emotions and praying fervently for safe delivery and healthy baby.  I was greeted by her momma and we both exchanged the same giddy, nervous, and excited smiles (with maybe watery eyes too).  A couple contractions in I could tell we wouldn’t be waiting long.  Jeff was doing beautifully tending to his wife.  Brianne was a rockstar and laboring like a champ!

Then it happened.  Labor changed from progressing to time to get this baby earthside!  Daddy got to catch his beautiful baby and bring this babe up to momma.  #Capturingessencephotography, #birthphotography, #newbornphotography#Capturingessencephotography, #birthphotography, #newbornphotography

The gender is still unknown and time stood still as they loved on their new bundle.  Now something you need to know about me is I am not very “crunchy”, but when I got the shot of this sweetheart being held by her momma with the placenta floating next to them I kind of did a happy dance.  For whatever reason it struck my ecstatic chord- I still don’t understand why but now you know it’s one of my favorite shots.

I know the question that’s lingering is it a boy or girl!!! So just in case you were wondering…

#Capturingessencephotography, #birthphotography, #newbornphotography

Beautiful Emery Kate Odom was born on August 30th at 3:26am.  Daddy tended to Emery as the midwives took care of Brianne.  Not long after, the other Odom littles were awoken and they came to meet their new sister.   Family snuggles galore!!!

Now it was then time for our friendly competition of guesses to be put to the test.  Emery was placed on the scale and I lost…by a big shot!

This sweet princess stole my heart and made my already baby fever kick into overdrive (for those of you wondering- nope not pregnant…yet!).  Her big baby blues melted straight to my heart and I just wanted to snuggle her.  But my professional mind overrode my puddled heart.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!  Those eyes with her sweet disposition melt straight to the soul.  This sweet princess barely wimpered except when she decided she was still hungry.  You know babies, they act like their full until you put them in front of a camera, then all of a sudden they think they’re going to starve in a matter of minutes!  I’m onto their game though, so we paused and let her get a little milk drunk.  No more fuss to be had after that.  We focused on some close-ups of some baby details.  Feet, noses, lips and belly buttons of course!

A little belly time and this little one let out a secret; though she be small she is fiercely strong!  Oh the places Emery will go.  She will speak to mountains and they will move, with a gentle voice she will calm the seas, and she will be a pillar of beauty.  Her future is bright and all who have the pleasure of being her friend will be blessed.

Let it be known, I am totally ok with Isaac marrying one of my daughters.  This little boy is the sweetest big brother.  Jane looks likes one of my girls and has the same spunky personality so she had me at hello and her springy curls.  Seriously I love this family!

The littles were wiped.  We had reached our quota of, “just one more- you’re doing great!”  So we finished up with special moments with mommy and daddy.

Daddy’s magic touch sent this sweet pea into dream world.  Of course we took advantage of this sweet moment (because sometimes that’s all it lasts is a minute moment in time).  #Capturingessencephotography, #birthphotography, #newbornphotography#Capturingessencephotography, #birthphotography, #newbornphotography

Before I left I wanted to document the welcome board in the entry way.  Proudly displayed for all who graced their home.  Thank you Jeff & Brianne for again allowing me to be a part of your journey.  I know our friendship will travel through time and continue to deepen and I thank God for that.  Blessings on sweet Emery Kate.  Love you my friends!

More than a Fighter. She’s a Warrior.

I got a call from Rhonda’s sister, Angela and she informed me they had just gotten news that Rhonda was going to be in the fight of her life…for her life.  A diagnosis every woman fears, breast cancer.  She explained she wanted to surprise her with a family photo shoot before she started chemo that next week.  My tight schedule became wide open for whatever we could make work.  Sitting on my bed, I hung up the phone and I just lost it.  Rhonda and Angela are both past brides and I have grown very fond of their families and this news was heavy.  But one thing I know for certain about Rhonda is that she is more than a fighter, she is a warrior.  She has a great support system and if they could they would take it on for her.  James & Jaxon will be her draw for great strength.

The D Team becomes a Full Roster

I mentioned in a previous blog that I have a special fondness of pregnancy & gender reveals.  Well, it may be because I am pregnant so often that I am always planning one or the other.  This particular reveal for me has been in the wings and in my dreams ever since we were pregnant with #4.  My husband Ben and I are both in love with the game of baseball/softball, and it only felt truly appropriate for our family that we have a full roster of 9 before we executed this shoot.  Especially because the running joke around town is that we will have our own softball team before we are done having children.  We are a little lopsided to say the least with 1 boy and 7 consecutive girls.  Naturally everyone is pulling for us to have a boy… but will the girl streak be broken?!

announcement-1

Being of “advanced maternal age” does come with it’s benies.  I will turn 35 about three weeks before this baby will be born, so insurance covers a special test that screens for Downs.  It also tests the DNA in such a way they are also able to tell gender with 99%ish accuracy.  At my 14 week Ob appointment I jumped at the opportunity and anxiously waited the week turnaround.  We had already promised our parents they could be the first to know and we would find out as Ben shattered a plastic baseball filled with either blue or pink chalk (that I hopefully could pitch so he could hit it).  Appropriate right?  We invited our immediate families to share with us as we found out if The D team was adding a baby boy or girl.  Our firstborn, our son, was hoping and praying with all his might to see blue while the youngest girls all said the baby was a girl.  Ben was expecting girl but thought maybe boy.  I had been thinking boy until I woke up one night from a dead sleep and said aloud, “It’s a girl”!  So, as much as I would love a boy, my vote was girl.  Most of our family grabbed blue for two reasons: they really want us to add another boy to our family & what are the odds of 8 consecutive girls!  I guess we all hedged our bets per say and anxiously await the cloud of dust!

I laughed when we got pregnant and I laughed when I saw the pink dust.  We are firm believers in God and that He will give us exactly what He intended for us.  But I can’t help hear Him laughing… not an evil cackle but a good belly laugh that simply conveys, “I am God, and you are not!”  I think I laugh because I get His sarcastic humor and I shake my head- well I mean seriously!!! Who has 8 girls in a row!!!  Although I have suffered from this in the past, I am surprisingly not being tortured from what they call “gender disappointment”.  I have no clue what we are going to name this beauty because I thought we had exhausted all our options!  Clearly, God will have to provide her name…and the wedding funds for each of these girls He has gifted us with.

We had such a fun time making the film and there was some funny moments that didn’t make the main video, but were too priceless that I had to make a bloopers reel!  Enjoy my goofy, crazy kids as they just enjoy life and make at the very least Ben and I laugh hysterically.

Norah Kinney has News!

Becoming a Big Sister.

Norah’s life is going to change for the better sometime in April when she trades in her only child status for a big sister!  Boy or girl it’s too early to tell but training for this big event has begun!  Big Sister training camp includes skill training on rocking, changing, feeding, and strolling around.  Best of all she will bring her sense of life and laughter.  There is no doubt she will be pro by the time her baby brother or sister arrives.

Congratulations to the entire Kinney Family as they prepare to welcome their second sweet bundle of joy!
